Mindset – The secret sauce

This week I listened to a podcast featuring Dr. John Cronin of Auckland University. He’s one of the world’s leading researchers in the field of sports performance. Having worked with countless elite athletes in his career he shared one of the keys to athletes’ success – the C.I.A. principle.

  • Consistency (75%) – show up
  • Intensity (20%) – bring intent
  • Accessory (5%) – the extra’s, tech, equipment, etc.

For the past 2 weeks we’ve had Cyrus and Delvin from UMass Football training with us, and they set the bar for our young athletes, embodying the C.I.A. principle. They seek perfection in every rep of every exercise, seek constant feedback from each other and the coaching staff, and leave nothing on the table. You can even hear them coaching each other watching for the finest of margins to improve. This is a fantastic example of elite training for all our young athletes.

To be an elite athlete you need an elite mindset. Everything else is secondary.
